NSW: Police officer slashed with knife in Tamworth

SYDNEY, April 17 AAP - A teenage robbery suspect has been accused of slashing a police
officer's arm with a knife during a struggle in northern NSW.

The incident occurred in the front yard of a house in Edith Street at Tamworth at about
1am (AEST) today.

Police said a 17-year-old youth was chased there by officers who allegedly found him
sitting in a car that had been broken into on the same street.

Officers had been called to the scene after reports a number of cars had been broken into.

During a short struggle in the yard, the police officer's right forearm was slashed.

A small knife was seized for examination, police said.

A 17-year-old Tamworth boy has been charged with offences including malicious wounding
with intent to resist apprehension and breach of bail.

He was refused police bail and was due to appear in Tamworth Children's Court today.
