NT:Court should be bulldozed: Chief Justice
The Northern Territory's outgoing Chief Justice says he's disturbed by calls for some
forms of religious and customary clothing to be banned in Australia.
Chief Justice BRIAN MARTIN says while most people work and live together in harmony
.. he gets agitated when he hears people spouting intolerant views and pressing for laws
prohibiting the wearing of a particular form of dress.
He's urged political and other leaders not to pander to the intolerant by conveying
negativity with statements .. such as being confronted by a particular form of dress.
Chief Justice MARTIN's comments follow a ruling by a Perth judge that a Muslim woman
must remove her full burqa while giving evidence in a fraud trial.
